Leeds Castle’s major new exhibition featuring the world’s first interactive historical AI avatar, ‘Pilgrimage of Love: Eleanor of Castile’, is now open. The exhibition, open until 1st November, explores the life and legacy of Eleanor of Castile (1241–1290), the formidable Queen of England and first female owner of Leeds Castle.

The AI avatar of Eleanor of Castile has been created through original research, immersive interpretation, and innovative technology, and sheds new light on one of medieval England’s most remarkable yet overlooked queens, in an unprecedented showcase.
By focusing on her life, experiences and character, the exhibition, which is included in your admission ticket, offers a new look at Eleanor’s story, exploring her values and the complexities of her life, and showing why her legacy still matters today.

Unlike traditional digital displays, the avatar is aware of her surroundings and recognises when a visitor approaches. She answers questions directly, creating a natural conversation that connects visitors with a story from seven centuries ago and makes them part of the experience.
For those who would like to extend their visit, Leeds Castle offers a selection of accommodation, from lodges and cottages to a charming bed and breakfast. As well as access to the Castle and grounds during the day, including the AI exhibition, overnight stays also include exclusive access to the captivating grounds once the gates have been closed to day visitors.

For families, there’s the Castle’s new family accommodation, Knights’ Retreat. Stowed away within the Castle’s idyllic 500-acre grounds, the Knights’ Retreat lodges are aptly inspired by Queen Eleanor of Castile’s vision for a ‘Castle of Delights’. The eight fairy-tale lodges, inspired by medieval myth and named after mythical creatures such as the Basilisk, Minotaur, and Gryphon, provide the perfect base from which to explore the delights of the Leeds Castle estate.
Alternatively, guests can opt to stay in Maiden’s Tower, which is ideal for history lovers, combining Tudor charm with modern comfort. It has a rich history and was allegedly used by Katherine of Aragon’s Maid of Honour during her wedding to King Henry VIII.
Alternatively, Leeds Castle’s six luxury historic holiday cottages are located across its stunning estate, surrounded by wonderful woodland scenery. The properties offer all the necessities for a self-catering stay as well as stunning views across the Kent countryside. For those who would like to opt for a B&B stay, Stable Courtyard offers a cosy and characterful place to stay within the heart of the estate. Each en-suite bedroom is individually designed and furnished to provide a comfortable and relaxing retreat.
For group getaways there’s Battel Hall, a wisteria-wrapped medieval gem, which can host up to 14 people, and offers an extravagant stay steeped in character. Designed by series 3 Traitors star and interior designer Francesca Rowan-Plowden, her distinctive style and flair bring a touch of drama to the historic manor.
